Becoming and Artist

In my youth, a passion for cartoons, manga, and video games ignited a dream to shape my own creations. Unlike some, I wasn’t born with innate artistic talent. Learning to draw was an uphill struggle, often met with stress and self-doubt.

Yet, my love for characters and aesthetics fuelled a relentless pursuit. The edginess of 90s Japanese manga and video games gripped me, propelling me towards professionalism. It was a decade-long odyssey of dedication and repetition before a stranger entrusted me with my inaugural paid artwork…

The pivotal moment arrived through an email commission from a band for an album cover. The weight of expectation bore down. The fear of rejection gnawed at me. Was I truly cut out for this journey?

Over 25 hours, I poured myself into the piece. When their response arrived, my world crumbled. They didn’t like it. Doubt consumed me. I questioned my path, doubting if I’d ever be more than an aspiring artist.

Yet, resilience surged from within. I undertook a complete overhaul, crafting a second version against all odds. It was a battle against my own doubts.

Presenting the revised piece, their approval was a triumph. They hailed my work, and I received my first ever payment from a stranger. It was an emotional apex, a testament to my evolution as an artist and as a person.

I’ve continued to work as an artist for decades, authoring several best-selling how to draw books, and more recently working as a Tattoo artist for over a decade. I want to continue to be of service to my customers, offering them beautiful artwork they can enjoy in their homes for years to come.

About the Artist
